Name: The Frostbite™ Apple (MN 447 variety)
Origin: Frostbite™ was developed in the University of Minnesota’s breeding program in the 1920s. It is extremely cold hardy and has a unique flavor that makes it a prime candidate for crossing with other apples to develop new apples. Frostbite™ is a parent to the Keepsake and Sweet 16 apples, and a grandparent to the Honeycrisp!
Appearance: Red to red maroon and purple-ish hints. Small to medium-small apple
Flavor: Tangy, refreshing, and very juicy
Texture: Firm & crisp
Season: Late season September to mid-October
Storage: 3–4 months refrigerated
Use: One of the best for cider-making and dried apple chips. Great for general snacking.
