The Zestar! Apple

Name: Zestar! Also known as the Minnewashta

Origin: Zestar! is a hybrid of State Fair and MN 1691. Zestar! was introduced in 1999 by the University of Minnesota breeding program. One of the parents of the SweeTango apple.

Appearance: Mostly rosy red with hints of blush red from sunlight. Beautiful and stunning round medium to large apple

Flavor: Sweet-tart with notes of brown sugar

Texture: Juicy and light with a crunch! 

Season: Late August–early September

Storage: 2–3 months refrigerated  

Use: Excellent eating and baking apple, and also great for making applesauce. They can brown easily so toss in lemon juice after slicing to prevent any discoloration.
